The importance of the village pub

The end of this month sees the beginning of British Pub Week – no doubt another marketing ploy for the industry to promote itself.  But if ever there was a sector that needed help, it’s the British pub sector, and most importantly village pubs – often a quintessential part of village life.

The British Beer & Pub Association recently reported that the rate of closures is down 73% from its peak last year, but many are still in danger.  We are fortunate in this area to have a huge choice of village pubs and it’s vital that these are regularly supported as often – with the demise of the village shop – they are the only community focused venue in a village.

A village ‘local’ often features highly in a clients’ wishlist and there is no doubt that a good thriving village pub can certainly have a positive impact on property prices so it’s in everyone’s interest to support their local pub and keep their landlords busy!

If you are looking for a good village pub near Bath then you might wish to try one of these; all very different and with their own character but definitely worth a visit:Fox & Badger

  • The Fox & Badger, Wellow
  • The Wheatsheaf, Combe Hay
  • Seven Stars, Winsley
  • The Pack Horse, Southstoke
  • The Hope & Anchor, Midford
  • The Kings Arms, Monkton Farleigh
  • The Hop Pole, Freshford
  • The New Inn, Westwood
  • The Wheelwright Arms, Monkton Combe
  • Tuckers Grave, Faulkland

If we all try hard enough I am sure we can prevent any more of our village pubs from closing.  And remember, it’s not only good for the community but also for the value of your property.  Cheers!

Bath’s Southgate centre wins national award

Posted on December 17, 2010 by bath

Bath’s new Southgate shopping centre recently picked up an award from the British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) for best in-town development. The centre has vastly improved the look of the city centre, replacing the ugly 1970s shopping mall that previously stood there.  It has been built to complement the style of the Georgian architecure of the rest of Bath, so loved by its residents and people looking to move to the city.  In fact, the development even received the Giles Worlsey award for ‘a new building in a Georgian context’ from The Georgian Group.
